I finally finished one sock, this knitting 2 socks on one needle is a bit*h...so I frogged several times and finally just did one using magic loop. It's perfect! I have cast on for the second...I hope I get it done.

I'm not sure if this KAL is still active, so I will take advantage of that and post a crap load of pics.

Here are some socks I knit up for my niece in Lisa Souza's LimeNViolet colorway. I used size 1 needles, magic loop method, basic toe-up pattern.
Look how much I have left! I'm sure I could manage two more pairs. Sucha bargain. Loads of yarn!
The colors pooled very curiously, but I like the end result. Reminds me of the Matrix codes!

...where I bought a pair of Ernst Lime & Violet glass sockysock 12" circs. Gorgeous!

I almost bought the L&V dpns but that would have put me over budget. ($100 cash)

So now I will settle in with my Lisa Souza L&V sockysock yarn and attempt #8 try at completing a pair of socks.
(long story short - I have knitted and frogged the same sock 6 times, and casted on another sock on a different set of needles, but I can't find that sock bag WIP)

There they are...my version of the Lime and Violet socks. Notice how the lower sock the colors match up and the top one's don't. It just happened that way. I was too busy fighting to draft the roving to worry about mixing or matching...it just did it for itself. Now I have a new pair of socks to keep my feet warm at night ;)

About two weeks after finishing the socks, here are my Lime & Violet Jaywalkers!

Participating in the L&V Sock Marathon, I wanted the socks to be finished by January 1st, and indeen cast off December 31st, around 10 p.m.
I'm really happy with them - the colourway is just so beautiful, and both socks have symmetrical patterns in the leg and foot part.

I started these several months ago however they were relegated to the bottom of the To Be Knit pile after I messed up the heel. I finally got round to undoing and redoing the heel about a week ago, and finished them off today. Yay!

My first time using Lisa's yarn and I've already bought 2 more skeins - it's very nice to work with.

I played around with a welt-stitch pattern and I like how it's come out, not too much pooling.

Now I need to find some purple or lime to use with the leftovers for another pair.

Hi there!

I joined the KAL about a week ago, and this post is really, as my caption states, long overdue.
I also chose the Jaywalkjers, simply because I never had knit jaywalkers before, and as this is my forth pair of socks I felt ready for them.
That's how the pattern came out during the cuff knitting:

I've already completed the first sock, but my cam is on strike, so no pics, sorry! Yet after the heel was completed, the pattern changed to a kind of light & dark spiral patches - someone here already knit the whole sock this way. Looks kind of nifty ;)

So it is a good thing that my socks are sleep socks. I used different sets of needles both size 2 dpns. The pattern and stitch count was the same also. I just did the all time knitting error of not checking gauge. I also am so into holiday knitting that I can't go and add length to the short sock. Good thing they are to sleep in.

I finally have a little something to post about :). I'm using Lisa Souza's "Lime & Violet" Sock, and it's the first time I've used her yarns, so there was never a question that this would be anything other than a pair of socks. It is very nice to work with and I'm liking how the colours are working with the pattern. It's been fun seeing the other things that some of you are making - and is keeping me inspired!

Okay, I'm waving the white flag of defeat...

The Thistle pattern was a bust...FROG....so I then tried a basic square shawl lace....the holes were lost in the mass of lime and violet....FROG.....

Only one thing left to try....socks.....

So here is the first one.

It is out of porportion because the cuff is ribbing and the foot is from yarn that was frogged. Once I wash and block it It should look better....knitting the second sock now, still using yarn that was frogged.

I finished these on Wednesday Nov. 22. They were going to be for me, but my boss saw one in progress and fell in love. She'll be really surprised when I give them to her at the company Xmas party.

Socks are my "mindless" projects, so the pattern is a plain stockinette, toe up, with a short row heel. I like the way they came out, although I must admit that Alcariel's modified Jaywalkers look way cooler. :)

My modified Jaywalkers are complete!! I changed the needle size up to a 2 so I don't have to do the 20 minutes wrestling match like with my other Jaywalkers. I also lengthened the cuff to 9". Only had about a quarter-sized ball of yarn leftover.

I just received my Lime & Violet yarn from Lisa Souza!!! I was so excited, and my kids thought I was nuts, till they saw it!! They both think they are getting new socks out of it!! I don't know, I think I'll have to make some socks for myself. I was also considering a scarf, but I just love showing people my funky socks, when I wear them. I use 4 dpn's to make my socks and work top-down for now. Those are the patterns I have, for now. Anyhow....I'm excited to get started.

Well, it didn't turn out anything like I expected.

The lime colored picture on the top is what I -wanted- but unfortunately the fiber didn't draft like I needed it to so we go to the 2nd picture spun much thicker than I really planned. So a lace shawl is out, but perhaps not all lace. I have a pattern for thistle, a green plant that has a purple flower that might just work. We will see.....

Now for the small amount of lime yarn....I think a tiny sock is in its future ;)

My First Socks!!!

YEAH! They are done, my first pair of socks. After much to do at the beginning and ripping out the heel three times before understanding the short rows. I think they are great and they fit! I added extra stitches to the pattern to make sure they would fit. They are comfortable I have worn them around the house but it is not cool enough here to wear them all day. This was my first knit along, I will definetly join another.

Getting Naked For Cancer

So, I usually post inspirational photos in our favorite Lime and Violet colorway. This is a little different.

Back in January, a friend of mine had an idea to help a friend of hers who had recently been diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma. Sex sells, we all know this, so why not sell the idea of it to raise money for something important -- like helping to pay for cancer meds. And so she came up with Lime Suckers -- a group of volunteers some whom were getting naked and some of whom were wrangling photos and text and websites and all of whom were in it to help someone beat cancer.

I wrangled text and people who deal with text. I'm also an alternate model so you might wind up seeing me on a Lime Sucker product sometime.

This totally freaks me out. But it also speaks to the depth of dedication involved with this project. You don't know Heather. But chances are good you know someone whose life was affected by cancer. I didn't know Heather before this project. But I do know that helping, even in this small way, is a good thing. It's a tangible thing that donations to cancer research (while those are fantastic) can't accomplish.

There's something for everyone in this calendar. All shapes, all sizes, all real bodies. It's tasteful and fun. And naked. And all proceeds go directly into Heather's account so that she can concentrate on beating this disease without being beaten by financial collapse.

I have become fixated on shawls and this is my second one ( the first was in off white cotton) This is my also my second lace pattern. I am really pleased with the way yarn is forming diagonal stripes which are easier to see since I have knitted 3 or so more inches since I took this picture.

L&V Roving in living color!

Okay here is my roving. This is as far as I have gotten as I don't have a free wheel yet. What I should be doing is:

1) Decide which kerflushing wheel I'm going to use to spin this stuff (50/50 Merino/Silk

2) Decide on a item that I will knit! 8 oz isn't very much, yet it is a lot in other ways. I've ruled out socks and sweaters.

I'm combining my yippii I joined and got my yarn post with my I cast on and am loving the yarn post. I am making the heelless sleeping socks from Knitting Vintage Socks by Nancy Bush. My biggest issue is dpn length. My spare size 2 dpns could be used for barbecue skewers. I need to make a trip to the lys and buy two more sets of size 2 dpns. Otherwise I may lose an eye.

Jaywalker mods

I was asked what I did to make my Jaywalkers smaller - so an update! I knit loosely and have a small foot and when I just follow a pattern it's way too big for me.

I used size 1 (started with dpn's and then changed to 2 circulars) and cast on 68 stitches. I made myself a chart with the pattern - where Kathy said 76 or 84 cast on I wrote 68 or 60 figuring that she had a difference of 8. I used the 68 stitch cast on based on my gauge and foot size, 17 stitches per 4 needles. In the pattern she uses either 7 or 8 knits in between the increases and decreases so I used 6 (I would have used 5 if I did the 60 stitch cast on.

Again I made a chart for the heel and did the flap on 17 stitches and adjusted it all accordingly. You can tell from the pattern how many stitches to adjust when the designer gives you 2 sizes. If you want to go smaller or larger, just do the same adjustment.

I hope that made sense K, when I first started socks and knitting and changing patterns, it was hard, kind of like when you learn to cook and don't deviate from a recipe.

But knitting IS just like cooking. It's fine to deviate (and encouraged in certain circles) and makes things interesting. But while I'm learning I like to lean on the recipe a bit. Part of my multiple casting on for these socks was because I cast on 76 the first time and then 60 the next. And 68 has become my magic number! But my current pair is 60 stitches on size 0's so again, you have to vary your numbers based on the yarn and your.........gauge swatch!

I cast on my LimeNViolet yarn many, many times. I tried a few different patterns, and then settled (decided) on the Jaywalkers. I finally changed the pattern to be a 6 stitch repeat and ended up with a wonderful pair of socks that actually fit me!

I have more of this yarn! I didn't use up an entire skein on this pair, I usually like a shorter sock and I have small feet, but I purchased 3 skeins, so I will definitely be checking out some other patterns. But this is my first Jaywalker, and I'm pleased to have used this yarn for it! I've already worn them a few times! Lovely!

Decisions, Decisions...

Okay, I got a bunch of spinning wheels...but I now cannot decide which one to use!

1) Reeves 30" wheel-right now I'm working on the last 1 lb of shetland roving for one of my Productive knitters project.

2) Reeves 24" wheel-right now has alpaca roving that is almost finished, but I prefer the 30" wheel.

3) Mazurka wheel-in the living room, but often knocked over and sat on by the resident dogs (Takes a licking and keeps on spinning!) Also has alpaca on it with a lot more to go. Since it is next to my computer I get very distracted.

Any suggestions?

This sock is simple stockinette, except for the ribbing around the top, which is 4x4.

Well my Lime and Violet yarn arrived yesterday! Squee (as the girls would say) I figured I'd ought to join up and they are responible for my new obsession with socks (not that that is a bad thing) Anyway I wound my yarn today, so fun! I was thinking Snakes on a sock would be a good pattern to try, but since the yarn popped off my ball winder and i had to shove it back on, I'm wondering if I should wait to see the alien baby socks, since my ball now resembles an alien head shape! I am also doing the socktoberfest KAL, and want to try to ge these done since I think htey are fun colors for Halloween!

Hi everyone!

So I have Miss Lime and Ms. Violet to blame...I mean thank...for my new addiction to Lisa Souza's yarns. I have 4 skeins - 2 in the Lime and Violet colorway, one Mars Quake and one Wild Things. Fabulousness all around!

I bought 2 Lime and Violet skeins because the fabulous Miss Lime had the fabulous idea of making thigh-high socks. An idea which I'm totally stealing. I may not go thigh-high, but I'm definitely making at least knee-high socks. I'll be using the guidelines found here.

Looking forward to seeing what the rest of you are up to!

I just got my sock yarn yesterday...I ordered it Saturday! That is easily the quickest shipping EVER! And it is so funky and delightful - now what to make out of it? I'd love to hear what other people are doing. The obvious choice for me is socks right? But I am trying to think out of the sock drawer on this one. Help wanted...please apply within!:)

It's so awesome to see you guys signing up! Welcome! This is really going to be a lot of fun.

Remember, to sign up, send an email with your name and blog info (if you have a blog) to lnvkal@gmail.com and we'll add you to the side bar. Please keep in mind that this KAL is organized around using the Lime & Violet colorway from Lisa Souza so you'll need to be using that yarn.

We didn't make that a requirement to exclude anyone, please understand. But every KAL needs a common theme and since we aren't working on a specific pattern and since the Lisa Souza yarn IS the official yarn of the Lime & Violet podcast, this yarn IS our theme. You can do anything you want to with it and it's possible that the colorway will soon be available in yarns other than the sock yarn -- that's what I've been given to understand anyway. I could be wrong! In fact, I'll do my best to find out and let you know.

These sprite dolls were handmade by Doreen Smith of Woodland Sprites Fantasy Sculptures. There's one named Violet sprite, but she's totally blue instead of purple.

Okay, I ran out of synonyms that start with the letter p.

In any event, sign ups are now open! If you have (or are planning to purchase) the Lisa Souza Sock! or Sock! Merino yarn in the Lime & Violet colorway, then this is the KAL for YOU. There are no project restrictions. Sock yarn is perfect for socks, but it's also great for gloves and shawls and sweaters and legwarmers and tons of other stuff. Now is your chance to show off with the pattern of your choice.
